Sydney council bans alfresco smoking

13:14 AEST Wed Mar 24 2010

Another Sydney metropolitan council has banned smoking in outdoor cafe and restaurant areas.

Leichhardt Council, which covers part of the trendy inner western suburbs known for its coffee-drinking culture, on Tuesday passed a resolution to make alfresco areas smoke-free from 2011.

The decision comes after Waverley Council, which oversees Bondi Beach, earlier this month voted in favour of a similar ban from July this year.

"We urge all NSW councils to follow in the footsteps of Leichhardt Council," National Heart Foundation chief executive Tony Thirlwell said on Wednesday in a statement.

"Residents and visitors of Leichhardt can really enjoy the great coffee the area is famous for without choking on secondhand smoke."

the mikiverse loves free speech and wholeheartedley accepts, that someone who is diametrically opposed to my views is free to promulgate those thoughts...However, misogyny, racism, intolerance etc will see that comment deleted.
These abstract considerations will be solely, and exclusively determined by the mikiverse, so play hard, but, nice.
